Problem #79 · October 14, 2026

EKUB — greatest common divisor and EKUK — least common multiple

Of the numbers 8 and 12, find the least common multiple (EKUK).
  1. A4
  2. B12
  3. C16
  4. D24
  5. E48

WORKED EXAMPLE

Solution

8=238 = 2^3, 12=22⋅312 = 2^2 \cdot 3. For EKUK, the greatest powers of all the prime factors are taken: 23⋅3=242^3 \cdot 3 = 24. By the formula as well: EKUK=8⋅12EKUB(8;12)=964=24EKUK = \frac{8 \cdot 12}{EKUB(8; 12)} = \frac{96}{4} = 24.
