Problem #78 · October 13, 2026

EKUB greatest common divisor and EKUK least common multiple

Of the numbers 24 and 36, find the greatest common divisor (EKUB).
  1. A6
  2. B12
  3. C18
  4. D24
  5. E72

WORKED EXAMPLE

Solution

We factor the numbers into prime factors: 24=23⋅324 = 2^3 \cdot 3, 36=22⋅3236 = 2^2 \cdot 3^2. For EKUB, the lowest powers of the common prime factors are taken: 22⋅3=122^2 \cdot 3 = 12. Check: 24:12=224 : 12 = 2, 36:12=336 : 12 = 3.
