Order of operations

The numbers 24002400 and 36003600 are divided by the same number. If the first quotient is 2424, what is the second quotient?

Solution

Find the divisor: 2400:24=1002400:24=100. Thus, the second quotient is 3600:100=363600:100=36. Another method: 36003600 is greater than 24002400 by a factor of 1,51{,}5, so the quotient is also given by 24⋅1,5=3624\cdot1{,}5=36.
